Pencil SketchesI usually don't do a detailed pencil sketch before I create a Lichloved strip. Pencil sketches have so much charm, and it takes a talented inker to translate that through with inks. I'm not a talented inker. Then comes the coloring, and even more can be lost. Agonizing. If I actually manage to do a pencil sketch I like, I tend to get too overprotective of it. Less heartbreaking to compose in Photoshop and bypass the frustration. On the other hand, blocking out a sketch geometrically is the best way for a n00b like me to approximate shading and perspective. |
Concept Thumbnails for Part TwoOne webcomic/week + one editorial cartoon/week + lotsa study = gradual improvement. It's very difficult to do Hazzanghoul's eyebrows full justice with Photoshop alone. I have more ambitions for Part Two, but my direction isn't set in stone. Same created-with-Photoshop-layers method, more ambitious style: Line art in traditional pencil sketch/hand ink/then color in Photoshop, which is a whole new method I'm going to have to learn: |
